Parlin Wins
2nd Straight District 10 AAA Title
Two GM Wrestlers Qualify for Regionals
Cyrus
Parlin came to the 2008 District 10 Tournament with his
buzzsaw sharpened and running full bore. The senior 119 pounder
was barely challenged as he cut through the tournament and
nabbed his second consecutive District 10 Title. Cyrus scored
a 17-2 tech fall over Lake's Jake English in the quarterfinals
on Friday, then returned Saturday to post a 16-3 major decision
over Corry's Kevin Kerr in the semifinal round. In the finals,
Parlin had a brief scare in the opening period when Warren's
Amani Bosko nearly took him to his back. But Cyrus fought
his way out of that predicament and then cruised to a 5-0
win.
SophomoreTyler
Bowers became GM's other Regional qualilfier earlier in
the evening when he pinned Franklin's Trevor Graham in the
103 lbs. consolation finals. Bowers, who made the drop to
103 for the post-season went 3-1, losing only to eventual
champion, Shelton Mack of Meadville.
Three
other GM wrestlers made the consolation finals, but missed
making the trip to Altoona with 4th place finishes. Shawn
McFadden, a two-time Regional qualifier had some tough
luck in what may have been the tournament's most evenly matched
weight class. This year's heavyweight field sported no less
than four legitimate contenders vying for the title.
McFadden
pinned Corry's Tyler Meneely in the quarterfinals, but then
suffered a couple of heart breaking losses that ended his
bid to return to Regionals. He dropped a four overtime, 3-2
decision to eventual champion, Kris Tursky of Conneaut Lake
and then suffered an identical 3-2, four overtime loss to
Prep's Caleb Wesman in the consolation finals.
Freshmen,
Zac Baumgartner and Doug Myers had successful
debuts in the 2008 District 10 Tournament. Both wrestlers
placed 4th, just one win short of moving on.

Notes
from the 2008 District 10 AAA Tournament:
Cyrus
Parlin made winning his second straight 119 lbs. title
look easy once again. The senior gave up a total of five points
all weekend. He also scored career wins 100, 101 and 102.
His last win moved him into 13th place on the Career Wins
list ahead of 1977 state champ, Phil Frndak. Cyrus has
36 wins on the season which ties him with a handful of former
GM wrestlers for 9th place on the Season Wins list.
Cyrus also became just the seventh GM wrestler to break the
200 career takedown mark.
Coach
Cook on Cyrus at the District 10 Tournament: "Cyrus
did what he has done all year. He represented our team well
with his aggresive style and his great attitude."
Congratulations
to Shawn McFadden who saw a great high
school wrestling career come to an end this weekend. Shawn
was a three time District 10 placewinner (3rd, 2nd and 4th)
and two time Regional qualifier (2006 and 2007). He had 79
career wins and led the team with 15 pins this season.
Zac
Baumgartner challenged and intimidated opponents all season
with his fearless, never quit attitude. That continued at
the District 10 Tournament where he beat one opponent by fall
and another by major decision. Zac just missed making the
finals, losing a close 7-4 decision to 2nd ranked veteran
Nick Endres. Zac should be a force to reckon with for the
next three seasons.
Doug
Myers was a solid wrestler at 189 and 215 this year, but
he really opened some eyes at the District 10 Tourney after
moving down to the 171 pound weight class. He posted three
pins and a win over 2nd ranked Jermaine Easter. Doug's only
losses were in the closing moments of two bouts with a very
talented Dennis Diodati of Conneaut Lake. Doug came within
what can only be described as a "gnat's eyelash"
of qualifying for Regionals in his first attempt. If Doug
continues to work hard, he has the potential to bring some
loot home from Hershey.
Tyler
Bowers scored a trifecta this weekend, posting a technical
fall, a major decision and a fall on his way to a 3rd place
finish. Tyler has improved tremendously since the beginning
of his freshman year. Expect to see Tyler make a return trip
to Regionals next year.
HEART
OF A LION AWARD! If there were such an award it would
go to senior Joe Zimmerman. Joe injured his shoulder
against Meadville's Kasey Davis in the semifinals but did
everything in his power to finish the tournament. He tried
to wrestle again in the consi semis but Coach Cook wisely
decided to stop it. Joe didn't place, but it's obvious why
Coach Cook picked him as a Team Captain. Joe is a leader
with the heart of a lion...great senior year and great
career!!!
Congratulations
and Best of Luck to all of the McLane Senior Wrestlers: Shawn
McFadden, Jake Carter, Joe Zimmerman, Cyrus
Parlin, Andrew Armagost, LeRoy Jenkins and
Matt Hoover.
Coach
Cook on the seniors: "These seniors were part of
something special over their four years. They amassed three
District 10 titles and surprised many with their ability to
compete at any level. My wish is that they will think rarely
of the goals they did not reach, but rather be proud of their
many accomplishments."
Coach
Cook on this year's tournament: "This tournament
was one of the stronger District 10 fields we have seen in
some time and it showed in the number of upsets."

Middle School
Team Concludes A
Great Season at the DuBois Duals
The
Parker Middle School wrestling team concluded one of the best
seasons in recent history this past weekend at the DuBois
Duals. The Middle School team finished the year with an 8-2
dual meet record, their best since 2002-2003.
The
young Lancers also had their best showing ever at the DuBois
Duals. They won 3 matches and placed 5th. DJ Myers
and Tim Wheeling both went 5-0. Ossie Bowers
went 4-0.
The
team also reached another milestone. For the first time ever,
six wrestlers completed the regular season with 20
or more wins. Ossie Bowers lead the way sporting a
stellar 25-2 record with 18 pins. Other 20 match winners were
Cody Bowers (24), Tyler Hendricks (24), Hayden
Albert (22), Tim Wheeling (21) and DJ Myers
(21).

Lancers Lose
Final Dual to Bisons
The
McLane wrestlers lost their final dual meet of the year, 38-17
to their old Erie County rivals, Fort LeBoeuf on Monday evening
in Waterford. It was GM's third straight dual loss since injuries
sidelined several wrestlers about three weeks ago.
Minus
starters Seth Stonis, Zach Lucas, Corey Goss and Jake Carter
the Lancers were no match for a solid Fort LeBoeuf squad.
The match started at 125 lbs. where Cyrus Parlin buzzed
through Justin Konieczki. That gave GM a 4-0 lead, but the
Bisons rattled off five straight wins and never looked back.
Doug
Myers, Tyler Bowers, LeRoy Jenkins and Ryan
Ruth were the only other McLane wrestlers to post wins
in the contest. The wrestlers will be back in action at the
District 10 AAA Tournament on February 22nd at McDowell.
Earlier
in the evening the GM Jr. High wrestlers had a good
outing. They beat the Bisons, 48-17. Ossie Bowers,
Parker McDermott, Tyler Hendricks, Nathan
Marcinko and John Nuhfer all pinned their opponents.
---------------------
Notes
From the FLB Dual Meet:
Joe
Zimmerman broke the season reversal record that was set
by JJ Brown in 1986. Joe reversed Thomas Woodward for his
29th two pointer of the season.
Cyrus
Parlin posted his 99th career win over Justin Konieczki.
It was another major decision for Cyrus who is tied for second
for the most major decisions in a season. Cyrus is also tied
for fourth on the career majors list.
Doug
Myers became the seventh GM wrestler to post 20 or more
wins this season when he beat Zac Clabbatz. Doug posted most
of those wins in the 215 lbs. weight class, before dropping
to 171 this week.
