Freshman
Sensation Don Osinski Finishes 3rd in the Middle
School Division of the NHSCA Nationals Tournament!!!
Donald
Osinski,
who shocked Cathedral Prep fans by pinning 2002 D-10 runner-up,
Josh Garrity in the last match of the District 10 Team Duals
in January, put another feather in his wrestling cap on Thursday,
July 3rd. Osinski pulled out a tough 8-6 decision in the consolation
finals to take 3rd place in the National High School Coaches
Association Wrestling Tournament.
Osinski
started the tourney with back to back pins, then pulled out
a heart pounding 4-2 overtime win in the quarter-finals. In
the semis, Donald met eventual National Champ, Curtis Bracken
and lost a narrow 3-1 bout.
He
bounced back with a fall in the consolation semi-finals and
then finished up with an 8-6 win to secure the 3rd spot on the
podium. Osinski had a 6-1 record in the tournament. He was the
second General McLane wrestler to place in the prestigious tournament.
Travis Goss placed 5th in the middle school division in 2002.
Two
other local wrestlers also placed in the event. District 10
runner-up, Sean Connole of Erie Prep placed 2nd and Ft. LeBeouf's
Jason Alexander was 4th. Osinski, Alexander and Connole were
all coached by McKean's John Heynoski.
This
year's NHSCA tournament was held in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
