Two McLane wrestlers snagged medals at the 2017 King of the Mountain Tournament at Central Mountain High School on Saturday. Andrew Brest wrestled his way into the finals before losing to Kyle Waterman (state ranked #7) of Council Rock South. Jack Kaulis took 7th place.

Andrew Brest, the top seed at 106 lbs., opened the tournament with a bye. He scored a major decision over Bald Eagle Area's Cooper Gilham in the second round and then decisioned state ranked (#4), Alejandro Herrera-Rondon, 5-3 in the quarterfinal round. In the semifinals, Andrew scored a 1st period takedown and held on for a 2-0 win over Carter Dilbert of Franklin Regional. Brest wrestled aggressively in the finals, but Waterman fought off most of his shots, giving up just a single takedown. Andrew came out on the short end of an 8-2 decision and had to settle for the silver. Despite the loss, Brest's wins came over some quality opponents (Dilbert and Herrera-Rondon), who placed 3rd and 4th respectively!

Jack Kaulis went 3-2 at 182 lbs. and took 7th place. He received a first round bye and then scored a 5-2 win over #11 Levi Hobson of Chestnut Ridge. Jack fell into the consolations when he dropped a heart breaking, 2-1 decision to #3 Christian Wachter of Warrior Run in the quarterfinal round. He secured a spot on the podium with an 11-2 major decision over Patrick Johnson of Seneca Valley. Kaulis fell to #7 Mike Kustanbauter of Muncy in the consolation quaterfinal round but bounced back to grab 7th place with a 6-4 win in OT over Hobson of Chestnut Ridge.

Cayden Connolly and Seth Yarger both went 2-2 in the tournament. Beau Caro, Matt Leehan, Brett Mallory, James Laird and Enrique Cornejo all went 1-2.

Note: Since 2005, Hadley Harrison, Don Osinski, Joe Wheeling, Owen Watkins, Ethan Laird, Jacob Lenhardt and Andrew Brest are the only Lancers to make the KOM finals! Joe Wheeling remains the only GM wrestler to ever win a KOM tournament title. He won back to back titles 2012 and 2013.
