GM ROLLS
OVER WILDCATS
The
GM wrestlers rolled over Northwestern, 57-16
on Tuesday in their first home match of the season.
It was a crucial win, especially considering the fact
they were short three starters. Wilson Spires, Jessi
Stempka and Teige Berger were all absent from Tuesday's
lineup, but the back ups stepped up and got the job
done.
The
Lancers jumped out to a 42-0 lead on the strength of
six straight pins and a forfeit. Kyle Cousins,
Chance Kimmy, Matt Caro, Brady Haskins,
Magnus Lloyd, Ryan Dedrick, Ethan Snyder
and Hudson Spires all registered falls. Dom
Snyder added six more points with the evening's
only forfeit. In the most exciting match of the night,
freshman, Clay Kimmy pulled off an upset in overtime
against state ranked (16th-AA), Sierra Chiesa at 121
lbs. The two battled evenly with the lead changing hands
several times during the match. Kimmy was down by 2,
reversed Chiesa with seconds left before the final buzzer
and then scored the winning takedown just seconds into
the OT.
Brady
Haskins scored the fastest pin in just 43 seconds
at 189 lbs. Magnus Lloyd and Ryan Dedrick
both bumped up one weight class and scored falls as
well. The win moves the Lancers to 2-0 against Region
4 opponents. They will be back in action on January
6th for Takedown Cystic Fibrosis Night against
two state ranked teams, Hickory (22nd) and Brookville
(10th).
Notes:
The
team performed very well last night in front of an impressive
home crowd. Tip of the cap to Brady Haskins,
Ethan Snyder and Clay Kimmy for stepping
up and doing a great job! GM alumni, Ethan Laird
(Rider) and Jackson Spires (Virginia Tech) were
in attendance last night. Both wrestlers will be at
the Southern Scuffle in January. Good luck!
Ryan
Dedrick and Magnus Lloyd have both reached
the 10 win mark already! Dedrick leads the team with
an amazing eight pins!

LLOYD
PLACES 6TH AT KOM
Magnus
Lloyd battled his way to a 6th place finish in a
stacked 189 pound weight class at this weekend's King
of the Mountain Tournament in Mill Hall, PA.. He
opened the tournament with a pin and then squeezed out
a 3-2 decision over 22nd ranked (AAA) Rocco Serafini
of Central Mountain in the second round. In the quarterfinals,
Lloyd lost a 6-1 decision to 3rd ranked (AAA), Juliano
Marion of Franklin Regional. Marion went on to take
runnerup honors..
Magnus
scored a 9-1 major decision over Hempfield's JJ Plaza
in the consolation blood round. He followed up with
a 4-3 upset over 7th ranked (AAA), Sam Milligan of Strath
Haven, which put him in the consolation semis. Lloyd
dropped a 4-3 sqeaker to #2 (AAA) Dillon Berchtold of
Owen J Roberts, who was a 5th placer at last year's
state championships. The loss sent him to the 5th place
match against Phillipsburg, NJ wrestler, Caleb Rivera.
Rivera, who was a 6th placer from last year's KOM tourney,
prevailed by a score of 5-3.
Hudson
Spires (3-2), Kyle Cousins (3-2), Chance
Kimmy (2-2) and Ryan Dedrick (3-2) all bowed
out of the tournament just one bout short of placing.
Of those four, Spires came the closest to making the
medal stand - dropping a close 8-7 decision to 9th ranked,
senior, Nathan Stone of Franklin Regional, who was an
returning AAA state qualifier. Ben Watkins and
Connor Avery both went 2-2. Clay Kimmy
and Teige Berger went 1-2.
The
team will be back in action on Tuesday at home against
Northwestern. It will be their last match before
the holiday break.

LANCERS OPEN
SEASON
WITH WIN OVER GRAPEPICKERS
GM
started the dual meet season with a 43-27 victory over
the Grapepickers in North East on Wednesday. The match
started at 160 lbs. The Lancers ran off six straight
wins and took a 34-0 lead before North East got on the
board. The home team finished strong, winning five of
the last seven bouts, but couldn't overcome McLane's
strong start.
Chance
Kimmy, Magnus Lloyd, Connor Avery,
Dom Snyder and Hudson Spires all registered
pins. Ryan Dedrick took a forfeit at 215 and
freshman, Matt Caro racked up a 10-0 major decision
in his first varsity victory. Clay Kimmy pulled out
a 6-4 decision to round out the GM scoring.
The
team will head to Central Mountain High this weekend
for the always tough, King of the Mountain Tournament.
GM will try to improve on last year's 22nd place finish
where Wilson Spires was tourney runner up and Teige
Berger placed 8th. Unfortunately the Lancers won't have
Wilson at KOM this year, due to an injury.
Notes:
Congratulations
to Ashley Campbell who made GM history on Wednesday.
Ashley earned the first win in General McLane Girls
Wrestling when she pulled off a come from behind,
6-4 win over her North East opponent.

LANCERS
NAB 3RD PLACE AT CHARTIERS-HOUSTON!
The
GM wrestling team started off the 2022-23 season with
a bang. Five wrestlers placed in the top four and the
team took 3rd place in a tough 32 team field. Magnus
Lloyd was the lone McLane champ, nabbing the gold
at 189 lbs. Lloyd went 4-0, pinning three of his opponents.
Ryan
Dedrick grabbed a bronze medal at 215 lbs. Dedrick
wrestled six bouts, losing only once to the eventual
champ, 5th ranked (AAA), Connor Jacobs of Armstrong.
Four of Dedrick's wins came by way of fall! Teige
Berger, Hudson Spires and Kyle Cousins
all wrestled their way in to the consi finals and took
4th.
Christian
Gillette, Clay Kimmy and Chance Kimmy went 3-2.
Dom Snyder and Connor Avery both won two
matches. Landon Harnett won in the opening round
to add to the team total. Jessi Stempka won his
opening round match as well, but suffered an injury
and was unable to continue.
Though
he scored three pins, Magnus did have a couple of challenging
bouts in the tournament. In the semifinal round he held
a 3-0 lead in the 3rd period, but his opponent tied
it up at 3 before the final buzzer. Magnus recovered
and scored the winning takedown in SV. in the finals,
Lloyd was trailing Central Valley's Brennan Morgan,
2-0 going into the 3rd period. Morgan chose the bottom
position. Magnus immediately locked up a tight cradle,
took Morgan to his back and decked him!
Clay Kimmy, Landon Harnett, Connor
Avery and Dom Snyder all won their first
varsity matches at the tournament. In fact, Snyder
just barely missed placing in his first varsity tournament
when he dropped a 5-4 decision to Alex Medlan of Beth
Center in the consolation quarterfinal round.
Notes:
A big congratulations to the GM wrestling team on their
solid 3rd place finish at the Chartiers-Houston Tournament.
I have to say, I was very pleased at the way the team
performed.
They
had a very good first round and then suffered a few
losses among the less experienced wrestlers. This isn't
unusual and they bounced back very nicely in the early
consolation rounds. They continued to grind it out with
very few disappointments throughout the tournament,
despite only having three seniors in the lineup.
I
can't help but be encouraged, especially considering
the fact that they finished only 25 1/2 points out of
first place without their best lineup. Jessi Stempka
(ranked 20th) suffered an injury in the second round
and was unable to continue. That likely cost the team
several points, as did the fact that Wilson Spires (ranked
5th) was missing from the lineup, due to an injury.
Hopefully we'll see his return shortly.
I
feel certain that if the team can get healthy and stay
healthy, they will accomplish some great things this
season. Hats off to the coaching staff for getting the
wrestlers ready for a great performance right out of
the gate!
