The
2000-2001 Lancer wrestling team ended the season with a
10-5 overall record. They finished 3rd in the Erie County
League at 7-2... behind Corry and Ft. LeBoeuf.
They won the team title
at the Tom Carr Tounament, placed 5th at the Tool
City and the Seneca Valley Tournaments... not
a bad season for a team that started only two seniors.
Shawn Trapp and Hudson
Harrison were selected to the All-County first
team. Luke Harrison made the second team. Hunter
and Hayden Harrison were honorable mention selections.
The core of this talented
team featured Seniors Shawn Trapp and Hunter Harrison,
Junior Ward McCracken, Sophomores Hudson Harrison
and Luke Harrison and Freshman Hayden Harrison.
These six wrestlers racked up an amazing 157 wins.
Hunter and Hudson were District
10 Runner-ups, Luke and Hayden finished 3rd. Shawn Trapp
was the 112 lbs. Champ.
Trapp went on to become
the first Lancer wrestler since Bradd Weber in 1987
to win the Northwest Regional title and the first
State Tournament place winner (7th), since Tom Kirdahy
(3rd) in 1999.
While the seniors will be
missed, some talented freshmen will give next year's team
some much needed depth at the upper weights. The 2001-2002
team should be in the thick of the Erie County League race.
