The 2002-2003 Lancer wrestling
team turned out to be one of the most successful teams in
McLane history. Even the unbeaten 74-75 team which sported
2 state champs and 3 state place winners would be hard pressed
to top this year's accomplishments.
The McLane wrestlers started
the season with a bang by knocking off perennial ECL powerhouse
Ft. LeBeouf and then finishing second at the KSA National
Team Duals in Orlando, FL. The team got even better in January
with some shifting of weight classes and the addition of
Prep transfer, Kyle Feikles.
This McLane squad provided
it's fans with nonstop thrills all season. They finished
4th at the Tool City Tournament and 1st at the ECL's with
11 wrestlers making the All-County squad. They won the D-10
Team Duals, wrestled well at the State Team Duals and won
the Indian Valley Team Duals Tournament. Then the 02-03
wrestlers topped it all off by winning their first ever
Disitrict 10 post-season team title.
The 2002-03 Lancer wrestlers
finished 23-3 and only lost to two teams the entire season
(Brookville twice and Cumberland Valley at the State Team
Duals). Three Lancer wrestlers won D-10 titles (the most
ever in a single season). Kyle Feikles, Hayden Harrison
and Hudson Harrison were all District 10 individual champs.
Records fell all over the place
in 2002-03. Some of the most notable were Hudson Harrison's
40 win season and 110 career wins, Hayden Harrison
breaking Tommy Kirdahy's career takedown record and
Luke Harrison's 25 season pins (2nd only to Frank
Myers' 27). Eleven McLane wrestlers finished the season
with 20+ wins (five had 30 or more).
Season High Points:
GM knocks off Erie Prep at the D-10 Team Duals. This was
an amazing team effort and no one who was there will ever
forget the sight of "unknown" freshman, Don Osinski
standing victorious over Prep's D-10 runner-up, Josh Garrity
to cinch the match. GO DONALD!!!
Coach Mulholland is named District
10 Coach of the Year.
Hudson Harrison and Ryan Dunlap
both qualify for the PIAA tournament Harrison goes on to
place 6th.
Season Low Point: Hayden
Harrison comes down with a horrible case of the flu and
misses what should've been a sure trip to Hershey.
This year's large group of
talented seniors will be sorely missed. The prospects for
the 03-04 season look good however. The squad will rely
on four or five fine junior and senior wrestlers as well
as a large group of talented sophomores. A couple of freshmen
could also crack the varsity line up.
