1982-1983 Season Wrap Up

The 1982-83 wrestling team was very talented and well balanced . The Lancers finished the season with an 18-4 dual record. They were 2nd in the ECL, losing only to Corry 28-20.

Senior, Frank Myers was the team standout. He won the Tool City and E.C.C.A. tournaments and was Section, Distict 10 and NW Regional Champ. Myers also took 6th place at the PIAA state tounament and finished the season with an amazing 39 wins against only 4 losses (3 of those came in the state tournament).

Myers' 39 wins stood as the single season record for 20 years until Hudson Harrison broke it 1n 2003. Myers set records for most falls in a season (27), most team points scored (254.5), and career falls (63). Myers also posted 100 career wins, a feat achieved by only a handful of McLane wrestlers.

Other top wrestlers on the 82-83 team were: Eric Groendahl (22-7-1), Mike Gilbert (29-9) and Joe Miller (26-8), Chris Brown (26-8), John Gates (18-5), John Campbell (10-2) and Matt Caro (13-8-1). Groendahl, Gilbert and Caro were all runners-up at Sections. Miller placed 4th at the District 10 tournament.
