Baker Wins District 10 Title
Five Other GM Wrestlers Qualify For Regionals

Last year, Caleb Baker set a record for most wins by a sophomore, but the 285 pounder had to settle for the District 10 runnerup spot. But Caleb was king of the hill this year. The McLane junior gave up just two points in three matches on his way to the District 10 AAA, 285 lbs. crown. Baker pinned Central Tech's Russell Lockwood in the opening round, beat Prep's Logan Thompson 5-1 in the semis and then scored a 4-0 shutout over Tyler Covato of McDowell in the finals.

Tim Wheeling failed to repeat as District 10 champ when he dropped a heart breaking 4-3 decision to Trevor Graham of Franklin in the finals. Tim gave up a takedown in the first period of their finals bout that proved to be the difference. Wheeling cruised past his first two opponents with a pair of major decisions.

Dalton Lester, Tom Nuhfer and Doug Myers all took 3rd place honors. Other than an 8-5 loss to Titusville's Dylan Huffman in the semifinal round, Lester was dominant, posting a 4-1 record, including a pair of technical falls and a major decision. Nuhfer had a couple of impressive wins over Titusville journeyman Jake Burnside, the last one in the consolation finals. Doug Myers was also on fire this weekend. He scored a pair of falls and a lopsided 14-7 decision. His only loss came at the hands of state ranked (5th-AAA) Michael Pollard of Corry.

Kyle Kuntz was McLane's other Regional qualifier, placing 4th. Kyle went 2-2 with a pair of pins.

News and Notes: Unfortunately, Tyler Bowers saw his career come to an abrupt end this weekend. The McLane senior just missed qualifying for his third Regional tournament when he lost a heart breaking 10-8 decision to Conneaut Lake's Seth Rendulic in the consy semis. Brandon Horn also wrestled his last varsity match this weekend. Horn wrestled well this weekend, going 3-2 and placing 5th in a tough weight class.

Dalton Lester broke the record for most reversals in a single season. Dalton has 31 on the year, one more than the previous record holder, Joe Zimmerman. Brandon Horn finished his career with 28, third best ever.

Caleb Baker is ranked 8th (AAA) in the latest issue of the Pennsylvania Wrestling Rankings.

Lancer Wrestlers End Regular Season
With A Big Win Over Vincent

There's no better way to end the regular season than with a landslide win in front of a home crowd on Senior Night. And that's exactly what the Pride N Poise Boys did on Wednesday. The McLane wrestlers combined for nine pins and a technical fall to roll over visiting Strong Vincent, 71-10.

Caleb Baker, Brandon Horn, Parker McDermott, Zach Chivari, DJ Myers, Bryan Campbell, Dalton Lester, Tom Nuhfer and Doug Myers all pinned their opponents.

Freshman, Parker McDermott had the quickest pin of the evening, a 26 second stretch job of Bobby Jurkiewicz. Bryan Campbell notched his first "on the mat" win of the year when he pinned Craig Heidelberg in just under 4 1/2 minutes. Zach Chivari got his first pin of the year over Dijon Deboe. Caleb Baker became the first GM wrestler to hit 32 wins when he posted his team leading, 21st fall over Max Swoger.

Dalton Lester posted his 31st win of the year when he pinned Brandon Jurkiewicz in 4:30. DJ Myers also got in on the action with a 3 minute 28 second fall over Nick Sauers. Zach Baumgartner put on a takedown clinic on his way to a 24-9 technical fall over Trey Groomes.

Seniors, Brandon Horn and Tom Nuhfer also showed their best stuff in their final home appearances. Both wrestlers wrestlers put on dominating performances which resulted in falls.

The Lancers will be back in action on February 26th and 27th at the District 10 AAA Tournament at McDowell.

Notes: Four McLane wrestlers now have 30 or more wins on the season. Baker leads the team with 32, Bryant and Lester have 31 and Wheeling has 30. Caleb Baker and Travis Bryant have combined for a whopping 41 pins this year. Coach Cook now has 77 coaching wins in 6 years at the helm. That's an average of nearly 13 dual wins per year!!!

McLane Wrestlers Come Up Short
Against D10 Runnerup, LeBoeuf

Perennial powerhouse, Fort LeBoeuf handed the Lancers their 6th loss of the season, Friday evening in Waterford by a score of 43-23. The McLane wrestlers have had a tough time with the Bisons in recent years. Their last win over LeBoeuf was a 37-21 upset in February of 2005.

Tim Wheeling, Brandon Horn, Dalton Lester, Doug Myers and Caleb Baker all racked up wins for the Lancers. Tim Wheeling posted his 29th win and 11th pin of the season with a 2 minute, 57 second stretch job of Kris Musser.

Brandon Horn got his first technical fall of the season, a 16-0 lambasting of Travis Abbott and Doug Myers posted a solid 9-3 win over Bison veteran, Lee Zeigler.

Dalton Lester notched his 30th win of the season with a convincing, 10-7 win over state ranked (16th), Casey Pace at 160 lbs. Caleb Baker posted his 20th fall of the season in 52 seconds over Mike Pfister. That pin put Caleb in the GM record books for "Season Falls" and "Career Falls."

The Lancer wrestlers will go for win number 12 this Wednesday on Senior Night at General McLane HS.

Notes: Congratulations to Caleb Baker. Caleb holds the distinction of being only the second McLane wrestler to post 20 or more falls in a season more than once. Hayden Harrison was the first GM wrestler to pull of the feat, when he did it in 2002-03 and 2003-04. Caleb is also tied for 12th place for most Career Falls. That's quite an accomplishment considering the McLane junior did it in less than 2 seasons.

News and Notes: (added on 3/3/10)-Fort LeBoeuf won the AA State Duals Championship over Reynolds on February 13th.

Lancers Lose To Ramblers 42-15 At D10 Duals

For the third year in a row, the McLane wrestling team was selected to wrestle in the District 10 AAA Team Duals only to lose in the opening round. The Lancers may have had a good chance of making the finals this year, but for some reason, the District 10 committee seeded the tournament before the Lancers wrestled McDowell last week.

As a result, McDowell was given the second seed by virtue of an earlier win over Corry and General McLane received the 4th seed. That put them in the position of having to face Cathedral Prep in the semis instead of McDowell or Corry, either of whom the Lancers may well have beaten.

McLane got wins from Tom Nuhfer at 189, Caleb Baker at 285, Tim Wheeling at 112 and DJ Myers at 135. Nuhfer posted the only Lancer fall of the evening when he decked Luke Trucilla in just over 2 1/2 minutes. Caleb Baker posted a solid, 4-1 decision over Anthony Szymczak for his 30th win of the season.

Tim Wheeling beat Adam Sallot, 4-1 at 112 and 135 pounder, DJ Myers pulled out an exciting, 2-1 win over Kris Hess.

The Lancers will be back in action this Friday against the Fort LeBoeuf Bisons in Waterford. The Bisons are ranked 3rd in the NW Region and will be a tough challenge.
