Takes 2nd at NHSCA Folkstyle Nationals

pounder, Branden Stearns dropped a heart breaking 9-7 overtime
decision in the finals of the NHSCA Folikstyle Nationals tournament,
on Wednesday to finish 2nd in the prestigious event. Stearns'
loss in the NHSCA finals came at the hands of Illinois, Larry
Short. Short wrestled for Proviso East High School and was an
Illinois regional champ and state qulifier. Stearns had beaten
his previous 3 opponents in the tournament by a combined 16-2
score, and had won 13 straight bouts since the opening round
of AAU Folkstyle Nationals in April.
Donald
Osinski finished 8th in the 135 pound, high school division.
He suffered a tough 4-2 OT loss in his first consolation bout
of the day, to Nathaniel Barton of Ohio. He then lost, 8-1 in
the 7th/8th place wrestle-off to graduated Senior, Andrew Hall
of Mifflinburg, PA. This is the 2nd year in a row Osinski has
placed in the NHSCA tourney. It was his first year in the high
school division.
North
East had four place winners. The Langdon brothers (Jeff &
Tony), both placed 5th, Andrew Kimmy was 5th and Josh Best took
6th. Two Iroquois little wrestlers also placed in the event.
Dylan Simmer took 2nd and Devon Miller placed 4th.

Stearns
Makes NHSCA Finals - Osinski Makes Medal Rounds
Branden
Stearns became the first McLane wrestler to make the NHSCA Nationals
finals on Tuesday, when he defeated Jeremy Kenny from Illinois,
5-0 in the semi finals. Stearns won three straight matches in
two days to make the chamionship round. Stearns is unbeaten
since he lost his first bout at AAU Nationals in Detroit in
April.
Don
Osinski posted a 1-0 decision over Ritchie Clark from Solon,
OH. on Tuesday to guarantee himself a second NHSCA medal. Osinski
placed 3rd at last year's tourney. Osinski's 1-0 win was notable,
since Clark was an Ohio state qualifier this past season.
Eric
Zelina and Louie Decker both wrestled well, but were eliminated
one match short of the medal rounds. Both wrestlers went 3-2
in the tournament.
Zelina
won three straight before dropping back to back bouts on Monday
and Tuesday. Decker lost his first bout on Sunday, then rattled
off three straight victories. He needed one more win to make
the medal rounds and took a 3-0 lead over his Eston, PA. opponent
into the 2nd period. Decker lost by fall when his opponent stepped
over him and caught him in a headlock.
Four
North East wrestlers also made the medal rounds in the tournament.
Stearns and Osinski will wrestle for their spots on the podium
tomorrow.

Stearns Makes
NHSCA Semi Final Round
McLane's
Branden Stearns won his first two bouts in a 21 man bracket
to make the semi final round at NHSCA Nationals, Monday in Virginia
Beach, VA. Stearns bested a North Carolina state 3rd placer
by a 7-2 score in his first bout and then shutout a Maryland
opponent, 4-0.
Don
Osinski won his first bout on Sunday when he topped a Solon,
OH. wrestler by an 8-2 count. He followed that with a 5-4 win
on Monday but then lost a heart breaker, 4-3 in the quarter
finals.
Eric
Zelina went 3-0 before he suffered a loss. He won two bouts
on Sunday, pinning his first opponent and then winning by a
10-5 decision. Zelina won his 3rd bout by fall on Monday, but
lost by fall in the quarter finals. Osinski and Zelina can both
make the medal rounds by winning their next bout.
Louie
Decker lost in the opening round, 8-1 on Sunday. Decker didn't
wrestle on Monday. North East put two of their wrestlers into
the semi finals on Monday.
