Hayden
Wins His 100th Career Match
As Corry Pulls Out A Wild Win Over McLane!
It went
right down to the wire, but the Beavers pulled out a win over
the Lancer wrestling squad Wednesday night at Corry. The match
featured several bouts that could've gone either way, but unfortunately,
McLane came out on the short end of all but one of them. After
a forfeit for the Lancers at 103, Aston Osterberg posted a solid
10-6 decision at 112 lbs. Corry took the 119 bout, then McLane
got back on the board with a 19-2 technical fall by Jake Keene
at 125. Keene used a nicely executed fireman's carry and worked
several bar-arm combinations to run up the score. McLane led
14-6 at that point.
Corry won
the next two bouts by narrow margins to pull to within two points,
14-12. The 130 pound bout between Don Osinski and Jeremy Joy
was a close one. Osinski held 3-2 and 5-4 leads in the bout,
but Joy managed a late 3rd period escape to pull out a 10-8
victory.
Freshman,
Louie Decker was down 4-0 to veteran Geoff Cracker in the first
two minutes, when he turned it on and took a 6-4 lead in the
3rd period. Decker hung on to win 6-5. Clay Steadman did a great
job of hanging in there with veteran wrestler Greg Murphy, but
came out on the short end of an 8-3 score. McLane still led,
17-15.
Hayden Harrison
took Jared Durlin down three times before showing him the lights
at the 1:34 mark. The Lancers looked like they might pull away
at that point when they were up 23-15. But the Beavers would
pull out another crazy win to put them in the driver's seat.
In the evening's
wildest match, Kyle Goss nearly pinned Dana Goodwill three times
and had a 9-2 lead at the end of 2 periods. But Goodwill fought
off his back in the final period and rolled Goss through for
the fall at 4:48. Ben Rucker was impressive in his first varsity
start. He had Tyler Soety in trouble twice with a couple of
slick throws and had a 4-0 lead. But, Soety came back to win,
11-6 to give Corry their first lead, 24-23.
Travis Goss
put the Lancers back on top in a big way and brought the McLane
crowd to their feet. He scored two takedowns and then forced
a half nelson to pin Bob Slava at the 2:04 mark. That gave McLane
the lead back, 29-24. But Corry's Brandon Edwars nailed down
a fall at 215 and a forfeit for the Beavers at 275 made the
final, Corry-36 McLane-29.
The McLane
wrestlers will be back in action at the new GM Duals on January
2nd and 3rd.
Other Notes
:
Hayden Harrison's
win was the 100th of his career. He joins brother, Hudson
in the 100 wins club and needs 16 more to tie Tommy Kirdahy's
all-time school record for wins. Hayden also has a good shot
at Frank Myers' career falls record of 63. He needs 14 more
to tie that one. Harrison has absolutely dominated his opponents
so far this season.
Ben Rucker
joined the McLane wrestling team recently and showed that he
may be a force to be reckoned with. Rucker hit some explosive
upper body throws and put a veteran opponent on his back a couple
of times.
Clay Steadman
kept a level head and did a nice job of holding Corry's Greg
Murphy to a 5 point decision and Louie Decker pleasantly surprised
several fans, by pulling out a 6-5 win over veteran, Geoff Cracker.

Jake Keene & Hayden Harrison Win
Titles at McDowell Tournament
Jake
Keene and Hayden Harrison both cruised to first place
finishes at the tough McDowell Tournament on Saturday.
Jake won his first two matches by fall and added an 11-4
decision to make the finals against Ft. LeBeouf's Freshman,
Steve Waite. Keene
hit a throw by on Waite in the first few seconds to take
a 2-0 lead. But a penalty point and reversal gave Waite
a 3-2 advantage at the end of the first period. Waite
then started the second with a slick roll and reversed
Keene to take a 5-2 lead. Jake hit a reversal and scored
back points to go up 6-5 at the end of the second stanza.
Waite couldn't mount much offense in the third period
and Jake hung on for an 8-5 victory.
Harrison
rolled through the tournament with four falls. He pinned
Ft. LeBeouf's Scott Edinger in the finals, a feat no other
wrestler had accomplished. Hayden also scored 9 takedowns
in the finals match to add to his record. The win was
the 99th of his career. Ashton
Osterberg had a couple of pins and made the finals at
103 lbs. before bowing 9-1 to Ft. LeBeouf's Kody Hiner.
Freshman,
Eric Zelina wrestled a great tournament, finishing 3rd
at 112 lbs. Zelina had three wins, all by fall. The only
loss he suffered was to eventual runner-up Jules Adams
of Maplewood.
Kyle
Goss, Brandon Saraceno and Hadley Harrison finished 4th.
Goss had the Lancers fastest pin of the tournament when
he decked Harborcreek's Matt Pakela in 33 seconds. Don
Osinski, Louie Decker, and Travis Goss took 5th. Clay
Steadman, Ethan Polaski and Andrew Wilson were 6th.
The
Lancers were officially 5th as a team behind Ft. LeBeouf,
Chartiers Valley, McDowell and Mercer, but tournament
officials made an error and did not credit Hadley Harrison
with a 4th place finish. The error cost McLane 7 team
points, which should have put them in 4th, ahead of Mercer.
Other
Notes: Ryan
Smith of McDowell was named the tournament's Outstanding
Wrestler...and congratulations to Ft. LeBeouf's Scott
Waite, who won his 100th match in the finals.

Ashton Osterberg's
15 Second Pin
Helps Spur Lancers To Win Over Bobcats
Ashton
Osterberg finally made it to 100 lbs. and he showed his first
opponent of the season what he can do with it. Osterberg hit
a takedown 5 seconds into the match, took Kyle Cody to his back
and got the fall in 15 seconds flat. Ashton's pin was the hi-light
of the evening for the Lancer wrestlers who beat Seneca 48-28,
on the strength of four falls and four forfiets.
It all
started at 140 lbs. Seneca took a 3-0 lead when Desmond Drake
pulled out a tough decision over Kenzie Leehan. Hayden Harrison
followed with McLane's first fall of the night. Harrison took
a 10-3 first period lead on four takedowns. He added 2 more
in the 2nd stanza before decking his opponent at the 4:49
mark. The win was the 95th of Harrison's career.
Travis
Goss and Andrew Wilson both had falls at 189 and 215. Goss
showed Dustin Drake the lights at 3:48. Wilson took Ryan Conley
straight to his back with a bear hug in the final period for
his pin at 5:29.
Freshmen
Clay Steadman and Eric Zelina both lost, but gave solid performances
in their varsity debut. Steadman lost 16-5 to Senior, Keith
Shumac, but he hung in there and wrestled well for three periods.
Zelina nearly pulled out a win before bowing to veteran, Dustin
Beebe, 10-6 in overtime.
The
McLane wrestler's will be back in action at the McDowell Tournament
on December 13th.
