McLane Wrestlers
Trounce Warren and
Go 8-0 at the GM Duals
The
General McLane wrestling team made it clear they don't intend
to be overlooked for this year's top seed at the District 10
AAA Team Duals. They went 8-0 at the GM Duals and trounced defending
AAA Region champions, Warren, 43-19 in the process. McLane was
red hot, outscoring their 8 opponents 522 to 78 (an
average of 65-10).
Hadley Harrison won all 8 of his bouts and earned his 100th
career win on Thursday when he decked Titusville's
Ben Anderson in 4:57. Kyle Goss put on an amazing performance
with 8 wins, all by fall. His last stretch job brought
gasps from the crowd. Kyle had a defensive whizzer in on Vincent's
DeAndre Bell in the second period of their bout. Bell came up
off the mat, when Goss reversed direction with lightning speed
and cross faced the Colonel straight to his back.
Ben
Rucker and Keith Scharrer also had perfect 8-0 records.
Rucker decked 6 of his foes and scored one major decision. Manley
Lupher had a perfect 4-0 record, sharing
duties at 119 pounds with Joe Zimmerman. Eric Zelina,
Shawn McFadden, Lou Decker, Don Osinski
and Cyrus Parlin all went 7-1. Decker, Osinski and Zelina
racked up 5 falls apiece.
Brandon
Saraceno and Jake Carter both went 6-2. Carter decked
four of his foes. 152 pounder Dale Sanders also had 4 falls.
GM's
overall record now stands at 9-1 after an 0-1 start.
News
and Notes:
Hadley
Harrison has 101 career wins after pinning Strong Vincent's
Tim Meahl in GM's final dual match on Thursday. Harrison also
leads the team with 15 falls. Kyle Goss is close behind
with 14.
Donald
Osinski pinned Strong Vincen't Mark Dombrowski on Thursday
for his 96th career win. Donald could hit the century mark at
the Tool City Tournament this weekend.
Hadley
and Donald also just entered the GM wrestling record
books in the Career Falls category. Hadley is number
5 on the list with 50 career pins. Donald is number 6
with 48. Hayden Harrison holds the McLane record with
67 pins.
One
of Eric Zelina's 7 wins at the GM Duals was especially
sweet. He scored a 15-7 major decision over Franklin's Booby
Steetle. Steetle was the 112 pound District 10 and NW Regional
AAA champ last year. Ditto for Dale Sanders who pinned
last year's District 10 3rd placer, Joe Snyder of Titusville.

Four GM Wrestlers
Place
At King of the Mountain
Eric
Zelina, Donald Osinski, Hadley Harrison and
Kyle Goss all placed in the top 6 at the greuling King
of the Mountain Tournament, which was held on Friday and Saturday
in Lock Haven, PA. The Lancers ended the tournament in 17th
place in a field of 33 tough teams. Last year's AAA state tournament
champions, Council Rock South and AA team contender, Bloomsburg
were among them.
Eric
Zelina. 6th Place. Zelina had a first round bye and then
posted a 7-1 decision over Tyrone's Anthony Romano in the second
round. He dropped a 7-1 decision to Stuart Rhodes of Holidaysburg
in the quarter finals. Zelina rattled off two straight decisions
to make the medal rounds. He assured himself a top six finish
by beating St. Mary's Josh Renwick for the second time this
season.
Donald
Osinski. 2nd Place. Osinski advanced to the quarter final
by posting back to back 8-0 major decisions. In the first round
he defeated Billy Chapman of Hughesville. In the second round
he racked up another workmanlike win over Holidaysburg's Ryan
Colmer. Osinski shut out Bobby Gulla of Neshaminy 6-0 in the
quarters. Donald saw his streak of 10 consecutive shutouts come
to an end when last year's regional runnerup, Dillon Evans scored
an escape in the second period of their semi final bout. But
that was all the scoring Evans would do. Osinski won, 3-1 with
a takedown in overtime.
In
the finals Osinski came up against Line Mountain's Kellon Balum,
who was a 2005 PIAA AA state champion. Donald forced Balum who
is normally a scoring machine, to wrestle his kind of match.
Balum was only able to score one late first period takedown
and a second period reversal to grind out a 4-1 win.
Hadley
Harrison. 2nd Place. Harrison scored two falls to move on
to the quarterfinals. He pinned Line Mountain's Josh Ngyen in
52 seconds and followed up with a second period fall over Shane
Carr of St. Marys. Hadley beat Pleasant Valley's Matt Omdorf,
7-1 and scored a 13-3 major over Holidaysburg's Chris Harr to
move on to the finals. Harrison saw his unbeaten season come
to an end against Upper Merion's senior sensation, Lewis Baker.
Baker won the 140 pound crown with a 19-6 major decision over
the Lancer
Kyle
Goss. 6th Place. Goss won his first round matchup over Justin
Capetola of Downingtown East with a 56 second fall. He dropped
an 11-5 decision to Central Mountain's Ryan Maggs to drop into
the consolation bracket. The following morning Kyle put together
four consecutive wins to make the medal rounds, before losing
to Maggs again. Goss was ineligible to wrestle for 5th place,
due to the 5 bout rule and ended the tournament with a 6th place
finish.
Keith
Scharrer, Lou Decker, Steven Scharrer, Brandon Saraceno
and Ben Rucker all contributed to the team point total.
Steve Scharrer and Brandon Saraceno each had one win. Lou Decker,
Keith Scharrer and Ben Rucker each won twice.
News
& Notes:
Donald
Osinski proved to everyone that he is able to battle with
with the best 135 pounders the state has to offer. In the finals
Donald kept so much pressure on Kellon Balum that the state
champ was unable to mount much of an offense and was even called
for stalling in the final period. Balum is normally able to
score virtually at will as he did at last year's PIAA AA Tournament
where he had a technical fall and 2 major decisions before defeating
Reynolds' Matt Dunn, 10-9 in the finals. Donald also
earned four more wins which brought his career total to 89.
He could hit 100 early in the Tool City Tournament.
Hadley
Harrison also added four wins to his career total, which
now stands at 94. Hadley could reach the 100 mark at the GM
Duals. Hadley also leads the team in falls this year
with 8. Don Osinski and Kyle Goss have 6 each.

GM Wrestlers Crush
Cathedral Prep 45-18
Ben
Rucker, Shawn McFadden, Brandon Saraceno, Glen
Sult and Hadley Harrison all scored falls Wednesday
evening as the Lancers crushed Erie Cathedral Prep, 45-18. McLane
won 10 of 14 bouts and finally erased the bitter memory of last
year's two one point losses to the Ramblers.
The
match started at 152 pounds where Prep got off to an early lead
as Nick Milano and Jason Ardillo posted back to back decisions.
Jake Carter got GM on the board with a win over Mike
Hayes at 171. Carter scored two takedowns and a third period
reversal to secure a 6-1 decision. At 189 pounds, Ben Rucker
countered a second period Sean Whalen bear hug with a headlock
and stretched the Rambler at the 2:42 mark. That put McLane
on top, 9-6. Prep got the lead back temporarily on a Jon Wentz
pin at 215, but that would be their last lead.
Heavyweight
Shawn McFadden was locked in a 0-0 shoving match with
Frank Vento for two periods. After choosing down in the third
period, McFadden caught Vento riding a bit high and rolled him
through for a reversal and a 2-0 lead. Shawn went right to work
from the top as he forced a half nelson, then took the Rambler
to his back for six. That gave McLane lead for good, 15-12.
Keith
Scharrer increased the Lancers lead with a come from behind,
11-4 decision at 103. Scharrer was down 2-0 after one period,
but took Chris Squeglia to his back twice in the 2nd for an
11-4 lead. Cyrus Parlin also scored a come from behind
win over Rocco Welleck at 112. Welleck got the first takedown,
but those were the only points Parlin would give up. He countered
with a takedown and an escape for a 3-2 win. That put the Lancers
on top, 21-12.
The
Ramblers got their last win at 119 when Steve Zoni scored a
fall. At 125, Eric Zelina used two first period takedowns
to upset Prep's state qualifier, Joe McCullough by a 5-3 score.
McCullough wasn't able to generate any offense against Zelina
and his only points came from two escapes and a penalty point
(due to a very authoritative Zelina crossface).
Brandon
Saraceno brought the GM fans to their feet when he countered
an Anthony Blaczcyk takedown attempt with a headlock and decked
him in 58 seconds flat. That made the score, GM 30 Prep 18.
Glen Sult saw action for the first time this year and
didn't disappoint the McLane contingent. He took a 2-0 lead
with a very nice double leg takedown, then used a power half
to flatten Sean Obringer at the 1:23 mark. That ran GM's lead
to 36-18.
Don
Osinski continued his winning ways by dominating Paul Squeglia
at 140. Osinski hit an outside single in the first period. Squeglia
tried to flee the mat, but Donald dragged the Rambler back in
bounds to finish the takedown. In the second period Osinski
escaped quickly and hit a low double leg to take a 5-0 lead.
Donald spent the entire third period trying to turn Squeglia
to his back, but the game Rambler wouldn't budge. Hadley
Harrison made short work of Randall Wagner at 145. Hadley
scored a team leading 11th takedown, then used an airplaine
and a half nelson to finish off Wagner in 52 seconds. Final
score GM 45 Prep 18.
The
Lancer matmen will be back in action at the King of the Mountain
Tournament this Friday and Saturday.
News
and Notes: Hadley Harrison's pin over Randall
Wagner was the 41st of his career. The win was his 90th.
Hadley more than likely would have more than 100 wins at this
point if it had not been for a shoulder injury he suffered during
his sophomore year. He missed 10 to 12 matches that season.
Donald
Osinski racked up his 85th career win Wednesday
night. That is an amazing feat considering the fact that he
only had 7 wins as a freshman.

G.M. Wrestlers
2nd at McDowell Tournament
Led
by finalists Eric Zelina, Donald Osinski, Hadley Harrison and
Kyle Goss, General McLane improved on last year's 3rd place
finish by tying for the runnerup spot with Port Allegheny at
Saturday's McDowell Tournament. Grove City was this year's team
champion.
Finishing
first for the Lancers were Donald Osinski and Hadley Harrison.
Eric Zelina and Kyle Goss placed second. Louie Decker took third
place, losing only his first bout to the tournament's oustanding
wrestler, St. Mary's Brad Steinbach (Steinbach finished 6th
in last year's PIAA AAA Tournament at 145 lbs.). Cyrus Parlin,
Brandon Saraceno and Ethan Polaski all finished fourth.
Brandon
Saraceno's tiff with returning state medalist Steve Waite (FLB)
may have been the most exciting bout of the tourney (at least
for McLane fans). Mid way through the first period, Brandon
nailed Waite with a great headlock and nearly pinned the Bison.
Waite showed why he was a PIAA placewinner by clawing back from
a 5-0 deficit to pull out a 7-5 win.
Eric
Zelina had 2 falls on the day and knocked off District 9's top
ranked 125 pounder (St. Mary's Josh Renwick) in the semis, by
a 5-4 count. Donald Osinski and Hadley Harrison remained unbeaten.
Both wrestlers pinned their way through the tournament. Kyle
Goss may have had the fastest pin of the day when he decked
Jamestown's Adam Duncan in 12 seconds flat. Goss had 4 falls
on the day.
News
and Notes: Hadley Harrison notched his 89th
career win and 40th fall in the finals. Not to be outdone,
Donald Osinski racked up his 84th career win
and 43rd fall. Osinski's season so far has been a carbon copy
of last year's start. Donald hasn't allowed a point to be scored
against him in his first 6 bouts. Hadley
and Donald will both grace the McLane Wrestling record books
in several categories before the end of the season.
The
McLane Wrestlers face their arch rival, Cathedral Prep on Wednesday
12/14/05 at Prep.

Short Handed McLane
Squad
Loses A Tight One To McDowell
Minus
several starters due to the lengthy football season, McLane
showed it's depth by nearly pulling out a win against the highly
touted McDowell Trojans. The Lancers led 25-15 after the 145
lbs. bout, thanks to pins by Eric Zelina, Don Osinski and a
forfeit to Brandon Saraceno. The match wasn't decided until
McDowell's John Anthony pulled out a last second 7-6 win at
215 lbs. That gave McDowell an insurmountable, 36-28 lead.
Keith
Scharrer got the team started on the right foot with a 10-5
win at 103 lbs. Eric Zelina put the next set of points on the
board when he decked veteran Matt Lewis-Jones at the 2:53 mark.
Eric was dominating on his feet scoring two takedowns in the
first period. He used a picture perfect double bar-arm to deck
Lewis-Jones. At 140 lbs. Don Osinski immediately took Johnathon
Salmon to mat and pinned him with a bar arm combo. McLane led
21-15 at that point.
Hadley
Harrison followed with a 9-1 major decision over Travis Booth.
Hadley nearly decked the Trojan in the first period but ran
out of clock. Louie Decker won a wild one over Terry Sedney
at 160. Decker took a commanding 7-2 lead in the second period,
but Sedney clawed his way back to make the final score close
at 7-5.
After
three straight losses, Shawn McFadden bear hugged McDowell's
Charles Wilson right to his back for a first period fall. Final
score, McDowell-36 General McLane-34.
The
McLane grapplers will be back in action on Saturday at the McDowell
tournament.
