McLane Wrestlers
Dominate Trojans!
For
the first time in several years the McLane wrestling team
defeated the McDowell Trojans in dominating fashion Tuesday
evening! Bolstered by big wins from Hunter Hendricks,
Kyle Sult, Owen Watkins and Keller Watkins,
the Lancers walked away with a convincing 45-15 win on Takedown
for CF Night at General McLane High School.
It
didn't look like it was going to be a lopsided victory at
first. The Trojans, surprisingly won the the first two bouts
at 220 and 285 to take a 6-0 lead. Brad Motter accepted
a forfeit at 106 to tie the score, and Leno Ciotti ground
out a 5-3 decision over a very tough, Alex Simos at 113
to make it 9-6 Lancers. McDowell took the lead back (12-9)
when Charlie Lenox got a pin 120. But McLane put the hammer
down after that!
Carmine
Ciotti rolled over Keegan Fordyce, 6-2. Hunter Hendricks
racked up a 17-0 technical fall over Jose Lopez to make
the score 17-12 Lancers. Giovanni Ciotti hung in
there against a very game, Noah Burkhart and pulled out
a last second, 4-2 win in 2 OT's at 138 lbs. That's when
the Watkins wrecking crew blew it wide open. Owen
Watkins took control right off the whistle and pinned
Dazion Castro in a cement mixer in just 52 seconds. Keller
Watkins completely dominated veteran Jared Carlson at
152 pounds and came away with a 12-1 major decision. That
gave the Lancers an insurmountable, 30-12 lead. Briggs
Twitchell followed up wiith a solid, 6-1 decision over
Jake Paulson at 160 to put the match away!
The
Trojans got on the board one final time when Ryan Dailey
pulled out a tough, 6-2 win over Ethan Laird at 170.
Kyle Sult slapped a devastating cradle on Michael
Kurelowech and pinned the Trojan in 1:15 at 182 lbs. McDowell
chose to forfeit the last bout to Riley Vaughn, making
the final, 45-15 General McLane.
The
Lancers' record now stands at 4-1 (4-0 in Region 4). They
will be back in action on January 2nd and 3rd at the Tool
City Tournament. Their next big dual meet test will be against
the Ramblers on January 8th at Cathedral Prep.

Lancers Fall
Short vs Defending Team Champs
The
McLane wrestling team hosted Canon-McMillan on Tuesday evening
at General Mclane. The Lancers, coming off a decent showing
at last weekend's King of the Mountain Tournament felt they
had a shot at upsetting the defending 2012 and 2013 PIAA
Team Champions. Though Canon-McMillan prevailed by a score
of 33-28, the Lancers proved they are in the same class
as the Big Macs. The 5 point loss was much closer than last
year's score (45-17). Just a 3 point swing in one weight
class could have turned things around.
Ethan
Laird, Leno Ciotti, Giovanni Ciotti and Keller Watkins all
scored mat wins for GM. Briggs Twitchell and Riley Vaughn
accepted forfeits. Giovanni posted a fall and Keller Watkins
won by an 8-0 major.
The
McLane wrestlers will be back in action on Thursday evening
in Erie against Region 4 opponent Strong Vincent.

Finish 12th at KOM Tourney
For
the third year in a row the McLane wrestling team just missed
making the top 10 at the rugged King of the Mountain Tournament
at Central Mountain High School this past weekend. The Lancers
had a great day on Friday, ending the day in 7th place and
putting five wrestlers in the quarterfinals. Unfortunately
all five lost their quarterfinal round bouts on Saturday
morning. On the plus side, the Lancers put five wrestlers
on the medal stand, and three of them were underclassmen.
Freshman
Leno Ciotti lost his first match on Friday, but then
came back to win 4 in a row and 5 of 6 to take 5th
place. Leno knocked off the #4 seed in the consi quarterfinals.
Sophomore Owen Watkins won his first 2 bouts before
losing to #3 seed AJ Kostyak of Boiling Springs, 5-4 in
the quarterfinals. Owen won 2 more and beat the #2 seed
before losing again in the consi semis. Owen got some redemption
when he won his last match, 9-5 over AJ Kostyak to snag
5th. Keller Watkins went 4-2 with a couple
of tech falls to place 7th. Sophomore Ethan Laird
went 4-3 to take 6th place, and Ian Mallory
also placed 6th.
Carmine
Ciotti, Giovanni Ciotti, Briggs Twitchell,
Kyle Sult, Riley Vaughn and Kendrick Storm-Bailey
all went 2-2. Hunter Hendricks also got a win for the Lancers
before bowing out.

Rockets, 58-12
The
GM wrestlers moved to 2-0 on the season with a 58-12 pounding
of Titusville on Wednesday evening at home. Brad Motter
started at 106 with a come from behind win. Motter trailed
for most of the bout, but battled, scrambled and kept it
close. Late in the match, Motter and his opponent were on
their feet working for the winning takedown, when Brad hit
a devastating headlock, took Wig to his back and got the
pin! It was the first varsity mat win for the McLane freshman.
Also winning by fall were Carmine Ciotti, Hunter
Hendricks, Ethan Laird and Kendrick Storm-Bailey.
Giovanni
Ciotti nailed his second consectutive technical fall
with a 16-0 decision at 138 lbs. Justin Miller and
Owen Watkins both scored major decisions. Briggs
Twitchell pulled off a hard fought, 4-1 win over Titusville
veteran, Easton Hogue at 160.
The
McLane wrestlers will head to Central Mountain this Friday
for the rugged, King of the Mountain Tournament. They will
be looking to improve on last year's 11th place finish.
