McLane
Keeps Rolling Against McDowell
With
McDowell's new and improved lineup, this year's dual meet
was expected to be a dogfight and it was. But in the end the
Lancers had enough to pull out a 37-25 victory over the Trojans.
The win ran GM's record to 5-0 overall and 4-0 in Region
4.
In
a rare, weekday 1:00 PM dual meet, the McDowell gym was filled
to capacity. The match started at 195 lbs. with Jay Hardy
winning by a score of 4-1. The Lancers got a dozen team points
from Adam Steiner and Jacob Lenhardt, who both
pinned their foes. At 106, Andrew Brest made it four
in a row when he cruised to a 13-0 major decision. That made
the score 19-0 GM.
McDowell
would win three of the next four bouts, all by fall to tighten
it up. It was the one the Trojans didn't win that kept the
momentum from getting out of hand. At 120 lbs. McDowell's
Alex Simos was getting the best Brad Motter early in
the match, but Motter put on a gutsy performance, fighting
back from a 4-1 deficit to tie the match, 5-5 at the end of
regulation. Motter nailed the winning takedown during a scramble
in overtime to make the final score 7-5. The Lancers held
a tenuous 22-18 lead at that point.
At
138 lbs. the Trojans had a wrestler weighed in, but elected
to forfeit to Hunter Hendricks. GM-28 McDowell-18.
Briggs Twitchell rattled off a workman like 13-4 major
decision at 145 lbs. Then Owen Watkins all but put
the match out of reach with 2-0 decision over Lucas Peterson,
in a match that was not as close as the score indicated. Watkins
dominated the Trojan wrestler for the entire six minutes.
McDowell won two of the final three bouts, but Ethan Laird
split the Trojan wins up with a big, 7-2 decision over last
year's District 10 champ and Regional place winner, Ryan Dailey
at 170 lbs. Finals score: GM-37 McDowell-25.
The
McLane wrestling team will be off for the holidays and then
back in action on January 6th against Meadville and then on
the 8th and 9th at the Tool City Tournament.

Remain Unbeaten With Win Over Huskies
The
McLane wrestlers remained unbeaten on Saturday with a big
win over a feisty Harborcreek team. GM took and early lead
with three straight wins by Jacob Lenhardt, Andrew
Brest and Mason Fitzsimmons. The Huskies came roaring
back with three wins of their own and even took a 16-14 lead
briefly. But then GM dropped the hammer, winning the last
eight bouts and rolled to a 48-16 victory.
Two
of those eight wins were very close ones. Hunter Hendricks
gave up an escape to Justin Kita late in the 3rd period, sending
the bout to OT. Kita nearly took Hunter to his back in the
first overtime period, but Hendricks scrambled out of it and
ended up with the winning takedown! At 182, Riley Vaughn
pulled out a 3-2 win over Zach Cassidy when he got a late
escape. Racking up pins for the Lancers were: Jacob Lenhardt,
Owen Watkins and Jay Hardy. Ethan Laird
added a technical fall. Andrew Brest, Mason Fitzsimmons,
Briggs Twitchell and Jordan Motter all won by
major decision. Adam Steiner closed out the dual meet
with a 5-1 decision at 220 lbs.
Saturday's
match was GM's 4th Takedown for Cystic Fibrosis night!
Some great lighting and sound was provided by Millennium
Sound Professional Disc Jockey Service. The event raised
more than $2,000. for a very worthy cause.

Racks Up 2nd Consecutive Perfect Shutout
The
General McLane wrestlers did something this week that no other
GM wrestling team has ever done. They scored back to back
dual meet perfect shutouts. On Tuesday they beat Central
Tech, 84-0 and Thursday they won over Strong Vincent, 84-0.
The Colonels gave up 9 forfeits. Getting pins for the Lancers
were: Andrew Brest, Briggs Twitchell, Owen
Watkins, Ethan Laird and Riley Vaughn.
There
has only been one other perfect shutout in McLane history
and that was over the Meadville Bulldogs in January of 2003.
That was accomplished by one of GM's best ever teams, the
2002-2003 Lancers. They posted a season record of 23-3 and
won the school's first ever, District 10 Team Duals title.
This was the McLane lineup against Meadville in 2003:
103-Hadley Harrison, 112-Steve Scharrer, 119-Jake Keene, 125-Tim
Shrout, 130-Brandon Saraceno, 135-Luke Harrison, 140-Hayden
Harrison, 145-Paul Hayes, 152-Hudson Harrison, 160-Ryan Dunlap,
171-Branden Stearns, 189-Josh Grabski, 215-Travis Goss, 275-Wayne
Gormont.
The
team will face Harborcreek at home on Saturday evening for
the 4th annual Take Down Cystic Fibrosis event. All
proceeds from this event will go directly to the Cystic
Fibrosis Foundation. Members of the wrestling team will
be taking pledges per takedown and donations this week and
at the match. Millennium Sound Professional Disc Jockey Service
will be on hand to make this a special event. JV matches will
start at 6:30 and the Varsity will begin at 7:00.

LANCERS
SLAM OILERS, 66-6
The
2015-15 McLane wrestling team started the season off right
with a 66-6 win over Oil City in their first dual meet at
home on Tuesday evening.
The Lancers racked up 7 falls, one technical fall and a major
decision in the contest. Getting pins for GM were Brett
Mallory (132), Hunter Hendricks (138), Briggs
Twitchell (145) Ethan Laird (170), Jay Hardy
(195), Adam Steiner (220) and Jacob Lenhardt
(285). Jordan Motter won by 17-2 technical fall at
160 lbs. and Owen Watkins (152) rang up a 13-2 major
decision. Bradley Motter (120) added an 8-4 decision
to round out the contested bouts. Also securing wins by forfeit
for the home team were: Andrew Brest (106) and Mason
Fitzsimmons (113). Jay Hardy got his first varsity
win and did it in style with a 15 second fall. WTG!
Congratulations
to Coach Ryan Cook who snagged his 150th dual meet win
as a coach against the Oilers last night! Cook is just beginning
his 13th season and is averaging nearly 12 1/2 wins per season.
Incredible!
The team will be back in action this weekend at the very tough
King of the Mountain Tournament at Central Mountain High.
