Don Osinski came up just short of placing at the JO State tournament, Saturday. Osinski beat Connellsville's Andrew Snyder, 6-0 in the 2nd consolation round and then was eliminated by Trinity's Grant Lowther, by a close, 5-3 score.

Keith Scharrer and Ossie Bowers were also eliminated from further competition. Scharrer dropped a 1-0 heart breaker to DuBois' JR Smith. Biglerville's Laike Gardner beat Bowers 11-1.

Friday's Results From Johnstown

Three McLane wrestlers kept their medal hopes alive Friday at the Jr. Olympic state tournament in Johnstown. In the 13-14 age division, Keith Scharrer and Don Osinski both went 1-1 and will wrestle Saturday's second consolation round.

Scharrer dropped a 12-0 major decision to Quakertown's Shane Leister, but bounced back to defeat Robert Morris of Titusville, 2-0. Osinski lost a 5-3 battle to Ryan Goodman of Greater Latrobe in the opening round, but rebounded with a solid 10-2 major decision over Rocky Grove's Bill Burk. Eric Zelina went 0-2 and was eliminated.

In the 10 & under age division, Ossie Bowers went 1-1 and was the only Edinboro survivor. He pinned Evan Smith of Bradford and then dropped a 13-2 decision to Chace Small of Greater Latrobe in the quarter-finals. Cody Bowers and Doug Myers both went 0-2 and were eliminated from further competition.

Osinski Qualifies For JO State Tournament For A Fourth Time

Don Osinski became the star of the District 10 Team Duals, when he pinned Erie Prep's Josh Garrity earlier this season. Don was the headliner again this weekend at the Area VIII tournament.

Osinski placed first in his weight class by totally dominating his opponents. He scored falls in his first two bouts and then racked up a convincing 9-1 major decision over Central's Anthony Wilbur in the finals. It will be Osinski's fouth trip to the Jr. State tournament. He went 1-2 last year.

Keith Scharrer, who placed 8th at last year's JO State Tournament, will also make a return trip to Johnstown. Keith won the Area VIII 75lbs. weight class. Eric Zelina placed second and will join Osinski and Scharrer as McLane's 13 & 14 age group qualifiers.

In the 9 & 10 division, Ozzie and Cody Bowers placed first and Doug Myers was 2nd. The trio will make their first trip to the State tournament.

Joe and Tim Wheeling both placed 1st in the 8 & under division.
