Results From the
PAJW State Tournament in Hershey
For the
second straight year, none of McLane's young wrestlers were
able to medal at the PAJW state tournament. Ossie Bowers was
the only McLane wrestler that was able to crack the win column.
He went 2-2 and won both of his bouts by fall.
Ossie Bowers
won his pigtail round bout by fall in 2:28 over Norwin's Joel
Pezze and then was sent to the consolation bracket when he lost
by fall to Montoursville's Dave Batkowski. He picked up another
win with a 22 second fall over Jamestown's Nick Floch, in the
first consy round. Ossie was eliminated when he dropped an 11-0
decision to Biglersville's Laike Gardner, in the second consolation
round. Ossie's losses came at the hands of place winners. Garner
went on to take 3rd place and Batkowski was 6th.
Cody Bowers
lost his preliminary round bout over Canon-McMillian's Dario
Dobbin, by an 11-0 score and was then eliminated when he lost
to Franklin Regional's Emmanual Markantone, by a 5-0 count.
In the 55
lbs weight class, Joey Wheeling went 0-2. He suffered a heartbreaking
8-6 loss to Coudersport's Kyle Bova in the pigtail round. He
bowed out when he dropped a 10-0 decision to Northampton's Brandon
Sommer.
At 105,
Doug Myers lost to Bethlehem's Andrew Klotz, 10-3 and then was
eliminated when he lost to Conneaut Lake's Tylor Williams, by
a 12-3 score.
In the 13
& !4 division, at 112 lbs. McLane freshman, Eric Zelina
also went 0-2. He lost a tough 5-3 decision to Fort Cherry's
Todd Martinek and then lost, 9-4 to State College's Steven Bosak
to end his season.
McLane's
last Jr. Olympic state place winners were in 2002, when Hadley
Harrison, Steve Scharrer and Denton Sauers all brought home
medals. Harrison was 2nd, Sauers and Scharrer both placed 8th.

PAJW Area VIII Tournament

Five Edinboro
wrestlers will make the trip to Hershey, PA. next weekend, in
search of gold medals. The five young wrestlers placed in the
top two, at yesterday's Area VIII tournament, in Corry. The
9 & 10 age group will send 4 of the 5 state qualifiers.
Brothers, Cody and Ossie Bowers finished 1st and 2nd at 60 lbs.
55 pounder, Joey Wheeling placed 2nd and 105 pounder, Doug Myers
placed 1st.
Eric Zelina
won the 13-14 age group title at 112 lbs. with a fall in the
finals. Congratulations to all of the Edinboro Youth wrestlers
who placed at the Area VIII Tourney. Good luck at the JO State
tournament guys!
